This is my self-care box!! It’s going to have a better name at some point, but for now self-care box will be fine. It’s based on this amazing distractions kit that crazinessandcreativity made that I am in awe of. Mine isn’t quite complete (moneyy grr), but it’s pretty far along.
The top two pictures are what it looks like. I got the bin and organize at The Container Store which is basically heaven for people with anxiety, overstimulation, and/or OCD problems. I could spend a small fortune there.
The top layer is split into two halves: fidget toys/other and yarn. In the fidget toys/other section, we have my favorite fidget toy, the blue tentacled ball, another yoyo bouncy type thing, a stretchy frog, four stretchy lizards, and then coconut body butter (which will one day be this), an eye mask made of angel wings, and Baldwin the Bathroom Monster (I knit him myself). They will eventually be joined by another Dismember-Me Zombie (I already have one but Frederick and I are attached at the hip and he will not be living in a box, however excellent a box it is. Right now he’s in my purse).
In the yarn section is a skein of Pashmina in Edison Bulb, purely to rub all over my face and make me happy. Then there’s a skein of Shibui Sock in Sky, Misti Alpaca Baby Suri Alpaca and Silk in 3743 (fascinating name, I know), and a partial of Valley Yarns Berkshire Bulky in Red. Those three are for specific patterns that I love and have knit repeatedly and take little to no time and effort. Specifically, Beverly Mitts (I did not blog this project because I’m an idiot), Easy Half Mitten and Diagonal Eyelet Hand Warmers. These are all luxury yarns and/or longterm favorites.
Then the bottom section!!
There’s chocolate. A lot of chocolate. A Godiva 72% dark chocolate bar and three pieces of Endangered Species mint chocolate, plus eight Honeydukes Sherbet Lemons.
The bear is named Sailor, and he is the smallest size of Gund bear (unless they have keychains). He’s been through a lot, as you can see, the most traumatic was being used as a dog toy (twice, he was very hard to rescue). He fits in my hand and likes to keep me safe.
Books! And movies! I got The Hunger Games when I went to Northampton and overexerted myself and had a panic attack and needed my dad to pick me up almost two hours away from home and leave my car in the back of a parking lot for a week. I was panicking and there was a book store so I got a book. It has special anti-panic powers, as well as being one of my favorites. Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident is too complex to explain, but needless to say, it is one of my prized possessions. Artemis Fowl is everything. Both of those I also have Kindle copies of so I won’t be sequestering my only copy to the box. Then also Allie Brosh’s book which is the perfect mix of funny and mental illness related, and one of my copies of all the HP movies. I got this one before I got the Wizard’s Collection, so I also have the DVDs (and blu-rays and digital copies and online copies and, in one case, a VHS) elsewhere. It’s more to remind and reassure, as I’d prefer to watch them on blu-ray. Also for emergencies in which I cannot watch the blu-rays.
First in the binder is my favorite picture of Su, printed out on super fancy paper. It makes me so so so happy.
Then there’s a two-paged rainbow list of things that make me happy, whether they’re activities, coping mechanisms, things to do, or reminders to myself. The big quote at the end is one of my favorite things I’ve ever seen floating around tumblr.
There are also coloring pages from pleasestopbeingsad, both the ones I’ve already colored, and printouts of ones I haven’t yet. My art supplies are in a different box, but if I were to travel with it, I’d throw in my markers and crayons too. Also, there are the patterns for the three fingerless gloves I was talking about before.
There are three other definite To Be Added items other than the zombie and body soufflé. One is Tom Riddle’s diary for writing/doodling/talking to Voldemort in, and the other is a custom made BeSpoke Monster Hug, handmade by MagicandMud. I have one of her Long Monsters, and I talked to her today and she’s making me a hug without pink eyes because the pink kinda creeps me out, and I cannot wait <3
Also, I’m going to get bubbles.
